Learn how cavities are formed

Learn how cavities are formed
Cavities When you eat foods that contain carbohydrates (sugars and starch), the germs in dental plaque digest these carbohydrates, producing sugar acids in the process.
Cavities These sugar acids start to demineralise the tooth enamel causing opaque, white spots to appear. In this stage, caries can still be reversed with proper oral care at home and with your dental team.
Cavities If the previous stage is aggravated, demineralising continues to the point that it makes a hole in the tooth. From this point, the tooth can only be treated by a dentist.
Cavities If left untreated, the cavity can grow larger, reaching the root canal.
Cavities If the root canal is left untreated, the condition can evolve and form an absess (plus accumulation in the root of the tooth).

Did you know that even fruits
and vegetables have sugar?
